10 Best App Preview Videos That Convert

10 Best App Preview Videos That Convert

8 min for reading

The App Store and Google Play are very competitive and it’s hard to stand out from the crowd.

Using video for your app is the best way to increase your user conversion rate and launch video marketing campaigns for your app to generate new users.

More often than not, these are short videos that can introduce your app to potential users who are new to your product.

Getting their attention in the first few seconds is therefore very important. We’ve found that these videos are not only used for app store listing, but can also be used for other marketing or promotional purposes.

10 Best App Preview Video Examples

1. Duolingo

Duolingo is the most famous mobile application for those who want to learn the English language in an easy way, spending 10 to 20 minutes a day.

We measured a real impact of this video and probable conversation, that’s why we attached this example first.

Duolingo made a video in a playful way and prepared this video for a marketing campaign to generate new users. But also this example of video could be used for many different channels, also in the App Store listing for new users.

2. Yousician

Yousician – is the Finnish app that focuses on interactive and educational music service made for learning and playing a musical instrument.

This is a great example to have in your marketing arsenal to attract new users. They used a clever approach to collaborate with famous artists like Billie Eillish.

In fact, she answered all the questions in the video with her reputational authority, her media fame covers everything in the video, and it also brings the viewer very close to Billie’s personality and immediately inspires trust in the brand, as Billie herself recommends using their app and shows it by real example.

On the downside, it could be very expensive to have such a collaboration with famous actors. For start-ups, I’d recommend using less expensive video options.

3. Blinkist

Blinkist – an award-winning learning app with text & audio explanations of key ideas from non-fiction books.

This video is very short compared to the previous one and is an ideal option for advertising campaigns and also for use in the App Store listing.

The video shows how it can be used in everyday life to accomplish your routine, combining the footage with actors and animation of their app.

For the startups that have a limited budget to invest in the video production to make a similar video, you can use the free stocks instead of hiring actors and use AI voiceovers.

4. FluentU

FluentU app helps you learn languages with music videos, film trailers, news and inspiring talks.

This is exactly the case where their video is super long, about 1:30 minutes, and got a crazy 49 million views by the end of their campaign. I personally saw this video 5-10 times in my social media feed.

From a marketing perspective, they start with a hook to show a problem, grab the attention of the cold lead, and then show how their app solves the problem. This video was shot entirely with actors, without any animation, to show the real emotions of the happy people who’ve used their app.

5. Quizlet Ads

Quizlet, the world’s largest online learning community for students and teachers.

They created an app introduction video for their website and, of course, the App Store. It is an animated video that includes video stocks that make it cheaper to develop, therefore the ROI from this video could be much bigger as the investments are not high compared to the others.

This video could also be used in the pitches or presentations for the potential investors as it introduces the app and its capabilities, benefits and functionality.

6. Busuu

Busuu is a language learning platform on web, iOS and Android that allows users to interact with native speakers.

What I love about this video is that it forces viewers to remember their brand and stick in their minds. Just notice how many times the actors pronounce Bussu, sometimes it’s enough to hear the brand name 7-8 times to remember it.

The script created for this video is super simple and does not overwhelm the viewer with a lot of information. Your goal in this video is to force the viewer to remember your brand.

7. Tinder

Tinder is the most popular dating app in the world, which makes it a great place to meet new people.

In this video, they took a bold step and showed a successful relationship between two women. They wanted to make it clear that Tinder is for all couples, regardless of their orientation.

It could be said that this video is an ideal option for a promotional video for your app, combining happy users played by actors who have already used your app.

8. Strava

Strava is a popular fitness tracking app and social platform for people who exercise. As highlighted in the video, one of its key benefits is the ability to interact and compete with other users.

The video emphasises that the app is for everyone, not just elite athletes, by showing everyday situations and featuring users who don’t appear to be professional athletes.

9. PocketApp

PocketApp is an application that allows you to create online stores and sell your products with just a few clicks.

That’s a pretty great approach in the video where they show the story of one of their successful customers, and it’s perfectly clear that this is not a real customer but a hired actor, but most companies do that.

Actors are going to show emotion and play whatever role you need to play to make them feel.

10. Wisely

The final video in our selection is dedicated to the my Wisely app — a financial management app.

I wouldn’t say this is the best example, so we’ve decided to place it at the very end. Animation is great for helping you visualise even the most complex concepts.

In this case, it’s a basic budget animation and it’s a great video to use in a presentation, for explaining things, and on the main page of a website or app.

It’s a good, budget-friendly option for startups. Unfortunately, it’s not suitable for advertising campaigns.

I’ve always said, don’t just show features; show solutions. Nobody cares about the button, they care about what happens after they press it.

    • Freelancers: the cheapest option, but there are a lot of risks and problems that can happen at the production stage, so choose the best specialists right away to reduce the chance of a stumble.
    • Professional agencies: There’s a greater chance of getting a good result, the agency usually has a good reputation, and there are lots of people to check the quality of the video at each stage of production. I’m talking from my experience at our agency.
    • In-house team: This option is only suitable for those who have the resources to keep a whole team of producers. But if you can get some good specialists on board, you can keep an eye on quality and make sure you meet deadlines, and you’ll end up with a video that’s as good as what the pros would do.
